Announcing the Beta

It's been about three months since I announced the Foe Foundry Alpha with the vision of creating a free toolkit for Game Masters who want to create monsters that are powerful, flavorful, and easy to run.

Since then, we've created dozens of new monsters, added hundreds of unique powers, and launched a GM Tips and Advice Newsletter.

But, the heart of this whole endeavour has always been the Monster Generator — and now it's more powerful than ever with mobile support, advanced search, and the new Monster Codex for discovering creatures!

Great news - the Beta Monster Generator is now available!

Don't just take my word for it. Karklaz, the site's friendly mascot, has a few choice words to say about the new generator:

A New 5E Monster Generator

Sometimes, a picture (or a video), is worth a thousand words.

Here are the key features:

  • Customize your monster by choosing powers from the monster's loadout
  • Randomize individual powers, or re-roll the whole statblock if you want fresh inspiration
  • Customize the HP and Damage by changing the hearts and skulls and see the values update instantly
  • Switch between different variants by choosing the nav pills at the top
  • A Monster Card showing off the monster's art and powers

Major Updates Since Beta Launch

Since launching the Beta in August, Foe Foundry has grown significantly! Here are some of the major features that have been added:

📱 Mobile Generator (August 2025)

The Monster Generator now works beautifully on mobile with swipeable cards, touch-optimized controls, and a streamlined interface. Generate monsters anywhere, anytime!

🔍 Powerful Search (September 2025)

Find any monster or power instantly with the new search system. Whether you're looking for "fire damage", "legendary actions", or "CR 5 undead", you'll find what you need in seconds.

📚 Monster Codex (September 2025)

The new Monster Codex is your gateway to exploring all Foe Foundry monsters. Browse, sort, and filter by: - Challenge Rating - Monster Type (Undead, Fey, Beast, etc.) - Family (Dragons, Giants, Criminals, etc.) - Environment and theme

⚔️ New Monster Families

Added complete Criminal statblocks including Spies, Bandits, Thugs, and Assassins - perfect for urban adventures and intrigue campaigns.

What's Next? The Journey Through Beta

With the release of the generator, I'm excited to transition the site from Alpha to Beta. The focus during Beta is going to be making the generator as useful and powerful as possible. Here's the current status of planned enhancements:

  • Monster Search - ✅ DONE! Fast, powerful search across all monsters and powers - find exactly what you need in seconds

  • Save Monsters - Coming soon with accounts - save your favorite creations
  • Share Monsters - Coming soon with accounts - share your creations with the world!
